Mr Hughes has announced he has been advised by Mr Millen that the Pacific ; Mandates have been arranged on terms satisfactory to Australia. CHTNA AND THE' LEAGUE. WELLINGTON, December 21. The Chinese Consul, Mr Lin Shih Yunane, has received an official telegram stating that China has been elected by an absolute majority, to be one of the four non-permanent members of the Council of the League of Nations. The votes cast -were: —China 21, Roumnnia 7, Sweden 5, Cdecho-Slovakia 2, Portugal. Greece, Switzerland, -Servia 1 each. All the great powers and the asiatic countries and most of the American States and the British Dominions voted for China.
