On Wednesday Taylor Holmes will be featured in an Essanay production entitled “A Pair ol Sixes,” a scream in six reels, from the funniest stage play ever seen. The story of tlie funniest contract ever made. Two partners in a successful pill business—both claimed the success—they couldn’t agree—so the contract was horn. Each one said of his partner that half the time lie didp’t know what ho was talking about, and the other half he talked about what he didn’t know. Well, I ask you, how could they work in harmony? A poker hand decided the contract—the man whq won was to run the business .his way lor a year, and the loser was to he his valet and household servant—and the best hand was “a pair pf sixejs.L’ Then the fun started. Every time the loser was disrespectful it cost him SIOO, and if either of them, or the wife of the one party told, it would cost him $5,000. The hill for disrespect soon mounted up, hut that’s not the worst—he had a girl, and she couldn’t he told the truth, so when she asked for explanations he couldn’t open Ills mouth —it would cost too much—and so the game went on. How he “put it over” his partner, estranged the yvjfe, got the girl, and came out top-dog makes the funniest farcical comedy you’ve ever seen. It’s an all-smile picture—a cure for the grouch—there’s not a dull moment—it’s a laughter-provoker from start to finish.
On Thursday Alice Brady will he seen in a powerful World film drama “Woman and wife” ; also first chapter of the sensational serial “Smashing Barriers,” starring William Duiican. McLEAN?S PICTURES. TOM MIX, TO-NIGHT. To-night Mr McLean presents the great Fox picture “Fame and Fortune” in which tlie favourite Tom Mix is seen at his host. The picture films'the life of “Big Dave” Dawlcy in an American town. “Big Dave.” Dawley saw the main chance for which his opportunist nature has been waiting when William Burgess, hanker a t the wild and woolly town of Palo “crashed in.” Not finding a will, he forges one in his own favour with the aid of his cowardly henchman, Judge Quinn, whom he cows into doing his bidding. But Ben Davi; the notary, refuses to he awed into affixing Jiis seal on the forged will. Daw’ey thereupon gives him ail hour to leave the town, which he does. The plot runs oil fast and furious, with many struggles, and a.story that.causes great interest throughout, with a great, fight in the closing scene. The serial “Wolves of ICultiir” will also he screened.
