M. CAILLAUX. PARIS, Dec 16. M. Caillalux has published a book of his life in recent years, vialently attacking England and M. Clemenceait. The author announced hs intention of emerging from obscurity again and entering the French political arena. IN CZECHO-SLA VIA. LONDON, Dec 16. Trouble is reported in Czeeho-Slavin, apparently owing to Bolshevik activities. Seven persons were killed and eighteen injured in an encounter between polico and communists at Bruex. Martial law has been proclaimed in Moravia, a dozen members of the revolutionary committee were arrested at Kladnp Documents were discovered showing certain Czech communists were in the pay of Moscow. It was intended to make Czccho-Slovakia a Russian colony. The movement is now checked, and public life is resuming its normal.
OVERSEAS NEWS. LONDON', Dec 16
The annual report of the Empire Parliamohtary Association states a scheme is being prepared to supplf periodically political and economic news from the Dohinions and also the views of overseas political leaders. It mentioned the hold ing of a general meeting of the Imperil! to which the Dominions will be invited is likely in the near future.
SHIPBUILDING TRADE. ;LONDON, Dec 16. A conference of representatives of shipbuilders’ engineering unions, and employers agreed to adjourn for six months the Union’s demands for an increase of six-pence per hour, on the ground of tho employers’ statement that the industry is unable to bear the cost.
THE UNEMPLOYED. LONDON, Dec 16.
Replying to a Labour deputation in reference to the prevailing distress through unemployment, the Minister of Labour after reviewing the Government measures to provide work, said he could extend no hope for relief measures as Government'policy was not to renew the system of donations for civilians. It preferred to co-operate with the local authorities in providing work for which grants had been made.
SERVIA AND BULGARIA. LONDON, Dee 16.
It is reported from Belgrade that Government have ordered the suspension of communication-, with Bulgaria, owing to the systematic refusal of the later to carry out certain clauses in the Treaty of Neuilly regarding Jugo-Slavs. It is asserted Bulgaria still maintains a regular army of forty thousand. Moreover Bulgaria is accused of not fulfiilling her undertakings regarding the delivery of coal.
WOOL TRADE. LONDON, Dec 17
West Yorkshre woollen manufacturers Association comprising twcnty-fonr doth manufacturing firms resolved that Government’s retention of wool for two years after the Armistice bv fixing high reserves has been an unjustifiable interference with the natural course of trade and interference is the principal cause of the present calamitous condition of the woollen industry, with the result that thousands of British woollen workers are already in unemployment and scores of thousands are 911 half pay .or loss. The Association believed nothing less than the complete abandonment of th<> attempt to control wool prices will bring a measure of stability fo our distressed industry.
