TRADE SCANDALS..

Due to scandals revealed during the investigation of New York building trades and general e xpensiveness, and retardation of building activities throughout the country, the Senate Committee will investigate the situation nationally.
NON UNION LABOR. (Received This Day at 8.40 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 16.
Officials of the larger steel Coy’s testified at New York investigation tha.t they refused to sell steel to building contractors, unless the latter employed nonunion labour as well as union.
NUMEROUS OUTRAGES. WASHINGTON, December 16. The number of robberies, burglaries, holdyps. and murders in New York have increased to such an alarming extent that silversmiths have protested to the Mayor, declaring thjp police protection! is inadequate demanding immediate protection. The organisation also plans to protest to the Governor of the State and will create body vigilants to protect jewellers interested. It is estimated there have been more than one hundred unsolved murders. TO BE DEPORTED. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, December 17. The so-called Soviet Ambassador Martins will be deported on the ground that he is affiliated with an organisation seeking to overthrow United States Government by force and vigilante. The order is the outcome of embarrassments suffered by Government throughout Martin’s activities in attempts to negotiate commercial contractors here w-'-for delivery of supplies to Russia.
CHILI CO-OPERATES. (Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) SANTIAGO, December 16. Tlie Foreign Ofiice has announced that Chili will co-operate with Argentine for the purpose of bringing about success to the proposals supported by the Argentine delegation in the anienament proposed at Geneva. The decision was reached following a Cabinet meeting and interpellations in the Senate.
