STRENUOUS BOXING.

LONDON, October ’B. After 20 rounds of always strenuous, mostly clever, hut not always too clean boxing, Bill F.ynon, of Merthyr, beat George Clark, of Bermondsey, at the National Sporting Club last evening, the verdict going to - Eynon, after the judges had disagreed. The contest was what is known, as an eliminator for a battle with Joe Higgins for the bantam-weight championship of-Great Briain and the. Lonsdale belt. The prize at issue was £SOO, and each lad was two ounces inside the weight (Bat. 61b) when they went on to the scale in the afternoon). Eynon, although the shorter man, scored faster and more accurately than his opponent, in the first round. The Welshman was still the aggressor in the second, but Clark, who had gained a catch-weiglit victory over liim in a twenty rounds affair at the Ring not so long ago was boxing very €°°hy. As the men confined themselves mostly to in-figliting there was a lack of exciting incident, but still the work on !x>th sides was smart-. There was n« much in it at the end of the fifth, the odds being slightly in favour of Eynioix. There were some lieavy-tright-lianded exchanges in he sixth, but both took care to cover the point well. Towards the end of the seventh Eynon put in some nice two-handed work, but try as he might lie could not corner his opponent. Eynon also made a spurt in the eighth, but because of frequent holding the boxing was now rather “ugly”. Eynon kept his lend and seemed to be the stronger.

Clark scored many points with a light left, and on occasions made his man miss with a right wing intended for th e jaw. There was little to choose between them in the last two rounds and at the close of a strenuous encounter the verdict just* went to Eynon.
