HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
.MONDAY, Dec 13.
The Committee nipt, at 7.30 p.m. Present': Messrs W .H. Shannon, (Chairjnan),.'J. Lloyd, Rrcstpn, Richards, Aitken and Rev. Purclms. All apology was made for the. absence of Mr Bruce. The minutes were confirmed and correspondence outward approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Education Board, stating the foreman had been asked to provide blackboard, and stating enquiries were being made as to advisability pf removing Dilhpan’s school tp Hokitika; stating tlio question of improvement of ventilation had been referred to foreman for report; enclosing report pf inspector Bropk on Dillman’s school, who suggested a conference of Coast members with Committee, Inspector and foreman. —Received; consideration deferred till next meeting. Fro same re scholars bpnrding allqwance ,notifying reason for non-payment to the scholars; also replying re complaint about ventilation. —Received. From same notifying acceptance of resignation of Mr McCullough, assistant at Hokitika.—Received. From same forwarding Inspection report on Hokitika school.—Received. Mr Lloyd moved that the Rector and staff bo complimented 011 the excellent report. Seconded by Mr Ai then and carried. Tf. was resolved to ask the Board to continue the services of Miss Aitken for a period of three months at least. >
From teacher, South Spit, reporting average attendance as 14.1 out of a roll number of 18, and that the drift sand had piled up against the main gates.-Received; Mr Grimmond-to bo asked to have the matter attended to. From Rector, (Mr J- Brunton) enclosing resignation as Rector, with reoret, and thanking members for their valued support in the past, that the attendance had fallen during the month owing to measles; Dr Baker had visited the school and examined all the scholars ; the drill instructors had also visited the school, and enclosing list of requisites obtained.—Received. The, resignation was accepted with regret. Mr McCullough waited on the Committee to personally convey his appreciation and thanks to members for the uniform courtesy and assistance given, and to say good-bye. The Committee joined in the expressions of goods'll and expressed regret at losing the ser r vices of tlio teacher.
