It was not graded and as most of it was sold direct to shopkeepers, the Government could not check delivery or quality. AERIAL MAIL SERVICE. WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. A start will he made with an aerial mail service early in January. The first will lie'between Christchurch and Timaru and the round trip from Auckland to Dargaville, Whangarei and hack. A seaplane will he used on the latter. The charge will be about 6d per ■ letter. The services "fill be experimental and a continuation will depend on tlie support given. A CHURCH CEREMONY. DUNEDIN, Dec. 13.
An event, unique in' thq history of tlie Roman Catholic Church of New Zealand was celebrated at St Joseph’s Cathedral yesterday, when two priests were formally consecrated to the Hierarchy. These were Dr Whyte, Bishop of Dunedin, and Liston, Coadjutor to the Bishop of Auckland. There was a brilliant array of Church dignituries and the Cathedral was thronged. Tlie consecration was performed by Archbishop Redwood of Wellington (Metropolitan), assisted by Dr Carroll, Bishop of Lismore (New South Wales), and Dr Cleary, Bishop of Auckland. There were also present iii the sanctuary, Dr O’Shea, Coadjutor, and Archbishop of Wellington, Dr Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, and other clergy. The occasional sermon was preached by Archbishop O’Shea. In tlie evening tlie newly consecrated Bishop of Dunedin presided on tlie throne and addresses of welcome were presented to them.
DENTAL SCHOOL. NELSON, Dec 13. A branch of the New Zealand Dental Association has unanimously passed a resolution in favour of the Department’s scheme of dental treatment of school children. HON. J. A. TOLE. AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. Obituary.—Hon. J. A .Tolc, Crown Prosecutor. AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. Hon Tole’s death was rather sudden. He was out driving yesterday. The cause is heart disease. A FIRE. HAMILTON, Dec. 13. A fire started this morning in tlie heater in the parcels office at Frankton railway station. It ran up the wall and along the roof. The buildings were not neatly injured, but Considerable damage/was done by water.
BONUS OF 3s. 'WELLINGTON, Doc 13. In their reserved judgment, the Arbitration Court awarded a bonus of 3s. FOUND DEAD. AUCKLAND, Dec. 12. James Granville was found dead in bed at his farm Glen Murray Station last night. Death was from a gun-shot. \ gun was alongside the body. Granville was witness in Thorn’s trial and was owner of the horse Micky and Thorn’s employer. He is believed to he a single man, aged about fifty years.
