It is understood there is a likelihood* of 'China referring the {question of Shantung, to the 'Assembly. The Assembly received Mr Hughes’ cable requesting to know the methods whereby the horrors of Armenia could be stopped and the nature of action desires on the part of the Commonwealth.
Sir R. Foster (Canada) submitted the Typhus Commissions report to the Assembly, moving that on urgent appeal be made world wide for ample funds to fight the epidemic of diseases in east ern Europe, beginning with Poland. Foster in an eloquent speech said the matter was of tho deepest interest to the whole world as infection knew no national boundaries. Ho appealed for sympathy for Poland. He asked the world to give, abundantly of it® nursing ability in addition to money. Prince Ranj(tsinghi "iba his maiden speech, strongly supported Foster’s appeal. He would appeal 10 the rulirg Princes of India for help and believed the Assembly would not be disappointed with the result. M. Hanotaux announced that the French Government proposed to vote a | million francs to the French Red Cross j for work in Poland. | Hon. A. J. Balfour announced that ( Britain would give £50,000 sterling*, without the previous stipulation that j three other nations contribute similarly. I Belgium withdrew her conditions and | promised a subscription. China offered , two thousand sterling. Appfauls'e |m'arf6ed every donation. M. Paderewski outlined; the work Poland was doing to help herself, but the task wns (o huge, that it was beyond her capacity to deal with it unaided. The report was adopted and a committee appointed to devise means of raising funds.
