HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
WELLINGTON, Nov. 29. TJio High Commissioner’s market report, dated London, 27th inst., is as follows:
Meat—English: The demand is limited, but owing to the small supply prices are fully maintained. Average prices are:—Bebf Is 5d per lb, mutton Is lOd per lb, and lamb 2s per lb, but for best quality up to 2s per lb is asked for mut--ton and 2s 2d per lb for lamb. No change has Occurred in the price or demand for New Zealand meat. Argentine chilled beef is in moderate supply at the maximum price. Butter-—English: Moderate supplies are coming forward at an average price of £24 5s per cwt (4s 4d per lb). Irish : Supplies :(re very liinited at £25 4s per cwt (4s sjd to 4s 6d per'lb). Cheese—The market is unusually quiet for all descriptions. English is steady at £8 15s to £9 7s per cwt’ (Is bid to Is 8d per lb), Canadian prices are irregular. White is quoted at £7 14s to £7 18s 'per cwt (Is 4jd to Is 5d per lb), and coloured at £7 18s to £8 2s per cwt (Is 5d to Is sjd per lb). The c.i.f. market is depressed, and quotations sirfe very irregular, beiiig £7 12s per cwt (is 4fd per lb) for October make, and £7 7s per cwt (Is 3jjd lb), and under for November make.
Hemp—The Manila market is very quiet, arid pricfes are again lower. “J” grade August-September shipment has been sold at £59 per ton. October-De-cember and JanuaryJVlarch shipments are now quoted at £59 per ton. The market for New Zealand hemp is inactive, and quotations are nominal. Sellers quote spot high poihts at £55 per ton, fair at £53 per ton, OctoberDecember shipment high points at £53 per ton, and fair at £sl per ton.
Wool—At the Governihent sales at Liverpool on November 25th 20,515 bales of Australian and NOw Zealand were offered and only 3000 sold, at prceis rilling at the recent London sales. The Liverpool sales fixed for December 20tli have been postponed urn til January 6th. Bradford trade conditions have not improved in view of the uncertainty with regard to future value of tops. Prices, which are nominal, are:—64s’, 5s 3d; 56’s, 3s 9d; 40’s, Is 6d per lb. Honey— The demand is moderate. New Zealand first grade has sold this week at 95s per cwt (10J per lb).
