POLAND’S PLIGHT,
GENEVA, November 26. t It is estimated that it will cost two millions sterling to stamp out the terrible typhus epidemic in Poland alone The League of Nations appeal for subscriptions has only reached—£22,ooo. Of this total, Germany has contributed one million paper marks. Doctor Madsin, a Danish member of the International mission, gives a distressing’ account of affairs in Poland. He has found every house in some villages to be infected with six or seven cases. The main difficulty in combating the epidemic has been the Inca of isolation hospitals. Both typhus and cholera are epidemic over the whole of Poland. The cholera victims are dying within twelve hours of taking the disease. The doctor reported that the clean parts of Europe are greatly menaced. Therefore it was of international importance.
LONDON, November 27
At Geneva, Sir Jas. Allen, in an address on the Polish epidemic to the Second League commission, which deals with the subject of -Hygiene said he had communicated the details to his Government in the hope, that the people of New Zealand, with Government assistance, would render help to Poland.
