PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY. WELLINGTON, Nov 24. - At the Presbyterian Assembly matters concerning Home Missionaries and the question of their having a seat and a vote in presbyteries were referred to a special committee to confer with the presbyteries and report to the next Assembly. A resolution was passed requesting Wanganui Presbytery to make careful investigation of the facts concerning the works of healing, through faith, as reported in the public press, by Tahu

SUICIDE. ROTORUA, Nov 24. Henry Apsden, aged about 40 was found shot through the heart in his room at Manaka yesterday evening with a pea rifle lying on the floor. He had been in bad health for a considerable time and underwent an operation for an internal tumor. He conducted a picture show’ at Manaka and leaves a widow and three children. Mr Massey, the Finance Minister, Btated to-day that the Soldiers’ Settlement Loan would not close to-morrow, as originally announced. “The final date of closing is not yet known definitely,” he said. Subscriptions have been coining forward well, but it is understood that additional sums are still required. The compulsory provisions of the Finance Act will operate if the full sum of £6,000,000 is not subscribed voluntarily.” LOAN CLOSING EXTENDED. WELLINGTON, Nov 25. At the suggestion of certain Chamber of Commerce, stock exchanges and financial institutions, who are assisting Government to raise on a voluntary basis, the sum of £6,000,000 to complete the settlement of Discharged Soldiers on the land ,the Minister of Finance has extended the date of closing until 16th December, after which the compulsory clauses of the act will apply.

During the session a Departmental Committee of Enquiry was set up to examine the purchase of bush country in the North Island -by the Railway Department. A scandal was alleged. The report disposes of the allegations and declares the transaction to have been a sound business purchase, properly conducted, and the Department was getting good value for the money. The land was intended to provide timber required by the Department.

EXPORT OF HIDES. WELLINGTON, This Day. Government advises that the Canadian Government has not prohibited the importation of hides from New Zealand ,if the articles are accompanied by the usual certificate.

CHURCH DISSERTERS. AUCKLAND, Nov 24

The dispute over baptism between the Presbyterian Church and Rev. A. Murray has led to a new development. Tonight a well-attended meeting of the congregation of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church decided to resign from th# Church and to form a new Church under the pastorate of the Rev A. A. Murray, who was suspended from the pastorate of St Andrew’s on account o’ his disbelief of the Presbyterian Practice regarding infant baptism. The meeting comprised some 3000 persons and included also some members of other churches, who had become associated with St Andrew’s. The meeting was unanimous on all points except the matter of what the new Church should bo named. It was stated that the Rev Murray himself favoured such a title ns the Independent Presbyterian Church, but no decision was reached. Rev Murray is assured of a minimum salary of £450 per annum.

UNUSUAL ASSAULT CASE. Nov 24. An artist appearing on Fuller’s programme at tho Opera House this week named Le Brun was arrested at midday and charged with assault. Tho arrest followed the admission to a private hospital of Mrs Ermey, who, w ith her husband are also on the programme as “Yank” and “Jean.” Mr Ermey was suffering from severe internal injuries causing haemorrhage and severo facial injuries. Her condition is very critical. Her husband “Yank” is also receiving treatment for facial Injuries and abrasion. Bail for Le Brun was not given by tho police. fatal fall. AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. Willfain Haynes, aged Go, sin,gl)', fell through a window in Wellesley Street, and died in the hospital two hours later.

GAS EMPLOYEES’ UNION. WELLINGTON, Nov 25. •\t a well attended meeting, Gas Cov officials decided to form a Gas Compan ies. Official Guild of New Zealand to be incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908. A provisional committee was set up and steps will be taken to establish branches throughout the Dominion.
