The deceased, who was a native of England and 73 years of aige leaves a widow and family of eight. There are five daughters (Mrs Russell of Hawera, Mrs M. Connolly of Hokitika, Mrs Gainberazzi of Greymouth, and Misses Sarah and Caroline Holmes), and three sons, (John at Arahura, Thomas in Auckland and Richard at Motueka). The funeial takes place on Saturday morning to Hokitika cemetery.

Considerable interest was evinced yesterday at the sale of Mr S. O. Ferguson’s fine property of 295 acres at the Waitaha when, despite the shocking weather conditions a good number of farmers and interested persons were present. After the particulars and con- ; ditions of sale had been read' by the Auctioneers, Messrs W. Jeffries and Co. who referred to the necessity of the sale brought about by the continued ill health of Mrs Ferguson, bidding opened at £l2 per acre and quickly rose to £l6 per acre, at which figure it was passed to Mr W. Searle, of Herepo. Subsequently an offer was made by a Greymouth buyer of £l7 per acre but as the figure was slightly below Mr Ferguson’s reserve, no sale was effected. Negotiations are now proceeding privately and business will probably be reported ih a day or two.

We regret to record the death of IMr George Pimpernell of Stafford, ' which took place early this morning at Westland Hospital. The deceased was a well-known resident of Stafford since the early days, where he followed mining pursuits, since 1868, and won the high esteem of the community during his long residence. Deceased was a native of Boston, 'Lincolnshire, England and 89 years of age. Before coming to /New Zealand he went to Australia and took part in the gold rushes ! at Bendigo and Araluen, then across to Hokitika. For some time past he had been in indifferent health, the passing of years taking its toll. His' wife predeceased him two years ago. He leaves four step sons j (Mr Joseph Linklater, Palmerston North, Mr ‘Hugh Linklater, Waitaha, , Mr (George 'Linklatejr, Stafford, and i Mr William Linklater, Hokitika), and i one step-daughter (Miss Linklater of j Stafford), who has untiringly nursed him during his illness. The relatives will have the deep sympathy of their many friends. The funeral takes place to Stafford Cemetery to-morrow.
