VICTIM DIES. CARTERTON, Nov. 22. Anthony Rzoska, the victim of the shooting affray at Carterton on Saturday night, died at Greytown Hospital at 3.45 this afternoon. A preliminary inquiry will be held at the hospital to-morrow at 10 a.m. and will probably lie adjourned to Carterton where a full inquiry will be Jheld. NEW STRINGENT REGULATIONS. WELLINGTON, November 2. New regulations under the Arms Act have been issued. They are to come into operation on January 31st. next. They stipulate application * for permission to carry a pistol beyond the home must be made to the police and in a 1 special form. It must state the purpose for which the weapon is required and must be accompanied by a recommendation from some other person. The holder of a license to carry a pistol must notify the police of any change of address. No person is to be permitted to import arms, ammunition or explosives without a permit issued liry the police. The application for such a permit is to specify the articles proposed to be imported.

A permit to buy firearms, ammunition, or explosives must be obtained by , application to tile police, and will be good for a period of six days only. A! seller must specify the firearm (on the back of permit, and must return the document to the police, The regulations deal also with pos/session of arms in prescribed areas. The act provides that the Government may fix areas within which the possession of arms, ammunition, and explosives will bie unlawful, pursuant to a license issued by the police. . Such license may be revoked at any time. /The holder must notify the police of any change of address. TEt? Act requires, that any person owning firearms must register. The application for registration must be made to the authorised police officer. The registered owner of any firearm must notify any change of address to the police.

A fire at 12.25 this morning destroyed Archibald Clark and Sons, Zealandia Shirt and Collar Underclothing and Tent factory in Grey Lynn, a large two storey building of iron and wood. A fire partly destroyed the same factory on 29th. August last. The danige is not yet estimated, but it will be heavy, The fire involves a total insurance amounting to £35,000. MISSING SCHOONER. AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. The Government steamer Tutanekai sailed this morning in search of the missing schooner Jubilee. INQUEST ADJOURNED. CARTERTON, Nov. 23. An inquest on the body of Anthony Rzoska, the victim of the shooting af fray at Carterton was held at Grevtown hospital his morning. On the application of Detective Torrance, after the inquest was formally opened, an adjournment was ordered for one weak. Frederick Thompson, accused of the shooting has maintained a stoical calm, apparently not realising the seriousness of his action. When told of the death of Rzoska which occurred at 3.45 yesterday, Thompson in the ;oeH, showed signs of weakening. He was taken to Wellington this morning appearing ill. RAILWAY FATALITY. AUCKLAND, Nov 23. Margaret Allen, aged forty who fell from a train from Taupiri to Auckland, eight days ago, died in the hospital this morning. She evidently fell from a carriage at the entrance to Parnell tunnel, and was run over by the train, suffering shocking injuries, and lay in agony all night.

WANAGNUI, Nov. 23 Wanganui branch of the-New Zealand Dental Association deny the statement of Hon Parr that all opposition to the dental scheme comes from Professor Pickerill and states that almost every member of the local branch is against it as also is practically all Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Christchurch members of the Association.
