The attendance was only four thousand. ; Mullett and McDonald opened the bowling to Hearne and Hendren. After eleven runs there was an adjournment. Then Hearne played forward to the third ball from McDonald, and spooned it into the hands of Ryder at midoff. Woolley followed. Both batsmen laid tlie wood on the loose bowling. The wicket was beginning to look delapidatod, and some balls kicked high. Ryder relieved Mullett and Hendren clouted hi/first hall 'a full tosser to tho fence at leg. Woolley gave Liddicutt the chance of a catch at mid-off, but the fieldsman dropped it. At 3.5 p.m., with the score at 418, Douglas closed the innings, which had occupied 365 minutes. McDonald took two wickets for 85,
and Ryder 1 for 76. Mayno and Park went to the crease for Victoria’s innings, and the former, narrowly escaped being both stumped and bowled off Woolley’s first over, which was a maiden. Rhodes at the Grandstand end bowled and a maiden resulted. Mayno scored the first run off Woolley. Park was at the wicket eighteen minutes before opening' his score. He then brought off a fine stroke off Woolley. And lie rail into double figures with a snick to leg next ball. Twenty appeared on the board after half an hour. Mayne, who had been making uppish strokes, at' last put the ball into the hands of Hendren at mid-off. Park was leg-before wicket two balls later, both to Rhodes.
Ryder and Lampard then became associated. Rhodes was bowling a splendid length. After scoring nine, Willis poked a delivery from Woolley into the hands of Fender. Lampard repeated this stroke after another run had been scored, and Hendren took the catch. The score board then registered:— 4/2/34.
Rhodes bowled Ryder next over, and next ball got another wic-kot, Moves being smartly stumped by Dolphin. Ransford and Liddicutt stopped the rout and brought the score from 34 to G 9 when Ransford was caught in the long field. Rhodes tempted McDonald who was caught in deep slip.
