SCULLING.
The boat Fogwell is using has been lent him hy Ernest Barry, the world’s champion, and it is somewhat longer than Hannan’s, craft (says the “Marl, borough Express”). It is rigged wider than usual, being five feet between the swivels, as against four feet nine inches, which is the accepted Australian standard. Fogwell’s boat was built by Simms and Sons ,of Putney, and George Towns, of Sydney, built Hannan’s boat to his order. Hannan’s sculls are nine feet six inches in length, with a twoinch “dish,” as against Fogwell’s nine feet nine inches, with a three-inch “dish.” These measurements together with Fogwell’s greater height and reach tend to a slower stroke than Hannan’s, and in practice theUatter has been rowing two strokes per minute faster than Fogwell. The stylo of the local man is quite different from Fogwell’s. Hannan, sculls with a straight back and has a beautiful drive and also makes good use of his splendid shoulders. His blade work is not as clean as Fogwell’s, the right scull frequently clipping the wat_ or immediately before the catch. Fogwell was always noted for his excellent blade work, and his recovery is almost perfect i his boat thereby having an excellent run between the strokes. His leg work is not as good as Hannan’s, and lie appears to use his arms to a greater extent than the local sculler.
THE 50% BETTEfI CALF FOOD. Mr R. Blackie, of Lochiel, pays high tribute to the value of Ceremilk for calf rearing. He writes:—“l decided to try rearing 20 calves on Ceremilk and water only, at three weeks old. I hardly expected them to do any good starting at such an early age. They have done splendidly. 1 consider Ceremilk 50 per cent better than any other food I have tried.” It is the available digestive food elements in Coremilk that make it so economical.
