[AUSTRALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATIIN GREEK ELECTION SURPRISE. ATHENS, November 16. The result of the Greek elections proves the defeat of the pro-Ally party of Venizelos. The verdict, it is asserted, has caused. a sensation in Greece. It is stJl impossible to state the exact constitution of the chamber. It is now. evident, however, that Venizelos is efeated in old'Greece and in Macedonia. All the ministers except Simos have been defeated. M. Venizelos (Premier) controls only abdut sixty deputies from Thrace, and a hundred from E.rete, thie Algean Islands; and Western Macedonia. The Gpujrnarists have won easily. They even are bewildered at their unexpected success. Th result is alleged to be due Jo an unwise internal policy of M. T\epoulis, and to the action of a military clique, surrounding Venizelos particularly while Venizelos was away from Athens. The Government has announced •bat in accordance with constitution procedure, the Government will hand ever power to the victors at the pills, without awaiting the opening of the No v Parliamentary chamber. He adds: —“lt is evident the ). - vernment has been mistaken in its expectations generally.” His party hoped Venizelos would bo able to control the situation, with ut his supporters having any recourse to violent measures. M. Gournaris was a Germanophile during the war. His party recently proclaimed its opinion that King Co.ietantine was the rightful ruler of Greece, ELECTION FIGURES.
