Deceased, accompanied by his brother-in-law was bringing th e body 1 of his mother, who died in Timaru, to Oamaru for burial. He had been suf- ■ fering from heart trouble. He fell from a bicycle in front of the "heels of a traction engine. One wheel went v over both legs. He died at 6 u’clocii j this morning. t DEATH ON THEs MAORI. \ CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 7. A man named Joseph Norman, aged 59 years, died suddenly on the ferry steamer Maori shortly before her arrival at Lyttelton this morning. Deceased, who was a travelling showman, was travelling with his wife ant son to Christchurch Show. His home is in Wanganui. He had been under medical attention for heart disease. THREE MONTHS FOR MAN- j slaughter. WELLINGTON, Nov. 8, William Arthur Webb, driver of a ■ taxi, was convicted of manslaughter by j knocking down and killing Alfred Maile ; or. Sept. 29th. The jury recommended, leniency. Webb was sentenced to three . months’ imprisonment. : j BREAKING BAIL. * WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. Two persons awaiting trial at the -present session of the Supreme' Court stowed away on the Wiltshire, which left Wellington on Tuesday for London vi'i Panama. They are Myrtle May Reid and Sydney Svenson charged with bigamy, and the latter also with false pretences. They were on bail of £l5O each. A wireless from the captain was the first intimation that the fugitives had broken bail and had been discovered on hoard. The Captain was instructed to transfer them if the opportunity offers to a vessel hound for New Zealand. LABOR FOR. BUILDINGS. WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. An offer was recently made by the Building Trades Federation guaranteeing labour for the Government’s housing scheme. Sir Wm Herries has re- . plied that 600 dwellings are to be i erected, besides those now under construction. The co-operation of the federation is desirable and the Depart- ■ ment will be pleased to have its assistance either liv employment of workers ■ on wages or contract. The latter r method is considered more satisfactory. p The Minister hoped the federation offer will facilitate the erection of a large number of houses,
