LATE LOCALS.

Mr Joseph Halligan, at the ripe age of 85 years, passed away in the Westport Hospital on Tuesday evening. Deceased was a native (of Ireland and had been 50 years in New Zealand. In Reefton Warden’s Court, John Coghlan, for failing to inspect the mine two hours before commencing work, was, on the information of G. Duggan Inspector of Mines, convicted and fined 10s and costs £1 7s. F. W. Archer, for permitting detonators to be placed near travelling and trucking road was convicted and fined £2 and costs 17s. Mr Jas Cargill, manager of Westport abattoirs, reported for the month : Cattle killed 81 (last October 94), decrease of 3; sheep 369 (257), increase of 112; pigs 1 (13), decrease of 6, calves 34 (22), increase of 12. Abattoir fees for October, 1920, £66 4s 3d, October 1919, £52 3s 9d, increase £l4 Os 6d. Grazing fees for October £2 12s. Condemned: 1 cattle, 1 sheep and 1 calf wholly and 1 cattle and 1 pig partially. Mr Cargill also inspected 6 pigs in but. cher’s shops. The death took place about midday at Westland Hospital of Mr Robert C. Fisher of Brittan Street. The de--5 ceased had been a. very old resident of the town. He was a native of Southwark, .England and "78 years of age, of which period nearly 60 years had been spent in New Zealand. A widow and family of throe are left to mourn their loss. They are Robert in Wellington, Mrs McGuire, of Greymouth, and Mrs Oarr of Crushington. Many friends will hear with regret of his end and extend sympathy to the family and relatives.
