PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
f AUBTHALTAN * N.Z OAHLE ASSOCIATION J BEFORE THE -ELECTION. ■ REPUBLICAN CONFIDENCE. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) ' NEW YORK, Nov. 1. The Republican confidence of victory gro\ys. The Democrats do not show any great enthusiasm Their morale was upset by the encouraging statements which are issued by the Republicans, who although admitting they cannot gauge the women’s vote, confidently declare the women’s vote will not affect their success. They reason that although it is to be expected that women will vote independently, women’s vote will naturally gravitate m tho direction of the men’s vote. Another interesting feature is the Congressional election. Mr Harding has asked America not to diminish his victory by electing democratic representatives as senators. The campaign managers in Washington are politely but emphatically denying the value of each other’s predictions concerning their respective successes. The Republicans firmly believe Mr Harding’s success will mean success in the congressional elections. The. weather will play an important part in elections. If it is rainy voters in the outlying districts of the countryside must often be transported to the polls over long distances. This requires that the party organisations in each locality must have available adequate sums to provide conveyances. Hie Democrats lament the fact that they do not have such funds. The weather bureau predicted rain in many sections of United States for election day. The stock market was supremely quiet the day before the election. Traders, ; however, do not look forward with anxiety. They declare that financial America has long prepared itself for a Republican victory and have already be- I gun adjustments in anticipation of the j post election period. , Election betting is now' ten to one favouring Mr Harding; due to few Cox takers. They are the highest odds in any campaign.
