LATE LOCALS.

The quarterly meeting of the Hokitika Fire Brigade tajktes place tomorrow evening at 8 o’clock. The Secretary of the Hokitika Fire 'Brigade desires to acknowledge with thanks, from the 'Hokitia Gas Ccy. Ltd. the annual donation of £2 2s. The fancy dress and masquerade Ball held in the Three Mile Hall last Wednesday evening, was as usual a pronounced success. Although a very boisterous night the hall .was crowded with | dancers from all parts of the district which testifies to the popularity of these dances. Mrs Lousich supplied excellent music, extras being played by Miss j Scott (piano), Mr. F. Torley (violin) Messrs A. Laughton and M. Freitas (accordeon). Mr fLousich had •of the floor and carried out his duties

in his usual capable manner, with the assistance of Messrs Jacobs, Freitas and McGuigan. A splendid supper was also provided. The ladies committee are to be congratulated on the financial success of the function, which should add materially to the building fund. The fancy costumes worn were—Nurse Burrell (Quakeress), Nurse Keily (Red Cross Nurse), Sister Hamilton (lost luggage, Nurse Benson (Gondolier), Mrs J. Freitas (French girl) Miss K. Freitas (Lord Fauntleroy), Miss E. Marshall (Rag-4ime), Mis’s N. Muir (Edmonds Baking Powder), Miss (Edwards (Canadian Lady), Miss Muir (Mr McSweeney) Mrs Hall (Mrs McSweeney), Miss Shannon (Swedish Peasant), Nurse Johnston (Old Mother Hubbard), Nurse Seahill (clown), Sister Hams (pierott), Miss Muir and Mrs Hall secured the first and second prizes respectively.
