[PER PRESS APSOOIATION. —COPYRIGHT.I \ H.M.S. CHATHAMWELLINGTON, October 26. His Excellency the Governor-General has received the following cablegram from the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, transmitted through the Secretary bf State for the Colonies: “On the occasion of the departure if H.M.S. Chatham the Board of Admiralty wish to congratulate His Excellency the Governor-General and the Government on the addition of this modern cruiser to the New Zealand naval force It is a matter of special gratification to tlie board that she commences her career under their auspices at the time when a distinguished naval officer is Governor-General of this great-Domin-ion.” HN Excellency Lord Jellicoe dispatched the following reply to tho Secretary of State for tlie Colonies: “Following for Board of Admiralty: My Government and I greatly appreciate the message of congratulation sent by the Ima-rd on the occasion of tlie departure of H.M.S. Chatham. Tlie presence of the ship in New Zealand waters will foster the sba spirit amongst the people of the Dominion and form a link in the chain of the Empire’s naval strength. I beg to add my personal thanks for the kind reference to myself.—(Signed) Jellicoe.” EMPLOYERS FEDERATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 27. The Employers’ Federation carried the following resolutions: “That the matter of making representations, to tho Arbitration Court regarding the effect of its policy in administering Clause 18 of tho War. Legislation Act be left in the hands of the Secretary of tho Federation;” “That {representations be made to the Government requesting the passing of a law to deal with industrial disputes whereby if parties to disputes fail to reach an agreement, and neither party refer the dispute to the Court, thq Government should cito both parties to appear beforo the Court, whose decis. ion shall he final.” That the Government be asked to set up a committeo to consider and advise as to the best means of securing the greatest possible production consistent with the permanent well being of industry and of the employers and workers engaged therein.” “That in view of a manifest injustice to private companies, the Government be urged to reconsider tlio exemption of Municipal Bodies from taxation on profits derived from undertakings carried on in active competition with similar non-eivie trading concerns.” That the Government be urged to introduce a National superannuation scheme and consider tlio practicability of including insurance against sickness and accident in such a scheme.
