Afr Daiziell said the proposed extension of Hie line tyould carry is for three parts of the distance over Crown Lands and for the remaining portion the route' was over the Company’s property. Settlers in the district used the line at''present because they had no other means of access. The line, however by no means met the full requirements of settlers and the distinct generally. The rolling stock was insufficient for themselves and the settlers, and they had necessarily to provide’ for their own wants first. If the Company had all the timber rights in the locality it might pay t|iem to make provision for larger district development. He had no doubt as to the excellent future of the pumice country. As to the proposed extension to Tango, that section for some years would be a burden. AN APPOINTMENT. WELLINGTON, October 27. Mr J. G. L.
