LATE LOCALS.

Tlie following is extracted from the Public Health Journal: “The Secretary of the Westland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, writes asking the Department if it would do its best by medium of the Public Health Journal to obtain a nurse for South Westland. He states that the Board has obta-inod a nice cottage, which is to be furnished, and there are 4 acres of ground attached for the purpose of paddocking a horse. In addition to the furnished house the Board provides a horse, saddle, and bridle for the use of the nurse, together with a salary of £250 per annum, which is the total liability of the Board in connection witli the appointment. In- return for this the nurse is required to attend the settlers in South Westland. The nurse informs the Board of the services rendered to such settlers, and the Board collects from the settlers fees in accordance with their ability to pay. For those who are lond of an outdoor life amongst some of the most remarkable and beautiful scenery in the world, and do not object to living and journeying in a very sparsely settled district ,this affords a unique opportunity of gratifying such tastes. The openhearted kindness and hospitality of the West Coast is proverbial, and though many town-bred women might view askance a prolonged sojourn on “the Coast,” yet many have found that after a while a life which they at first viewed with feelings almost akin to horror has made a strong appeal to them and possesses a charm that may only gradually be revealed. ”
