ELECTION OF MEMBERS TO
PROCEED
The Westland electric-power district is been approved by the Government ithority, and last night instructions 3re received by telegram to proceed ith the first election of members, the >ll, if necessary, to take place on the me day as the County election. It will be remembered that a fortght ago, Mr Miller of the electric nver branch of the Public Works Deirtment, visited Hokitika for the pur)se of conferring with the local bodies igarding the area of the proposed Pow- ■ district. The portion of the County ! Westland, lying between, the Teremaau and Mikonui rivers has been desired the inner area of the district, nd the three boroughs of Kumara, Hoitika and Ross, as well as the remainer of the County has been declared the uter area. Any portion of the outer rea may be brought into the inner area t any time by mutual arrangement, 'he desire is that ultimately the whole f Westland County and the three inter>r boroughs should constitute the Westand electric-power district. The first Board, which will consist of line members, will be elected by the lectors of the inner area, that is Coun,y electors w r hose qualification is within he territory included between the Tere_ nakau and Mikonui rivers. Nominations are fixed to close on the Ist prox. ind candidates must lodge a deposit of E 3. The deposit will be forfeited, if the candidate does not secure one-eighth >f the votes obtained by- the lowest successful candidate. The poll will be held on the same day as the County Election (Nov 10th), and thus avoids extra expense for a separate polling staff. At the poll, every elector within the power district will have one vote only. '
