(Reuter’s Telegram.s HUNGER STRIKERS. LONDON, Oct. 19. Ftzgerald, the dead Sinn Fein hunger striker, was engaged to be married. His sweetheart endeavoured to have the marriage ceremony performed in ? the prison a u’eek ago, but the authorities negatived. His relatives were allowed to remove his body from the gaol. McSWEENEY SINKING. LONDON, Oct. 18. The imprisoned Lord Mayor of Cork, Mr McSweeney, is developing scurvey in Brixton gaol. He refuses to take any limejuiee. A Reuter report from Rome states that the Vatican has been besieged with appeals on behalf of McSweeney the imprisoned Mayor of Cork. Some of those interceding for McSweeney compare his case with that of the Martyr, Saint Eusebius, who, wiien imprisoned, refused food. They desire the Pope to accept this view’ and to move the British Government and release McSweeney. Some, it iB stated, like Father Bernard Vaughan ,are contending that McSweeney is committing suicide therefore sinning against the laws of God and man. They beg the Pope to condemn McSweeney. It is further stated that the Vatican submitted the matter to Congregation of -the Holy. Office, it added, generallytakes years to pronunce a verdict. Mayor McSweeny is now visibly weak ening. He show's ,also symptoms of scurvy. A specialist has been called in. 1 Mr McSweeney lias sent a message to the relatives of Michael Fitzgerald, the Cork Sinn Feiner who died in prison as follows:—“No tears, but joy. He died for his country.’ ’ Another Cork hunger striker who has fasted for seventy days, is now reported to be in a very precarious state. BOYS PROSECUTED. LONDON, Oct, 19. A number of youths in Dublin were charged in Court with illegally drilling. The lawyer for the prosecution, stated they found a photograph of Lord French on one prisoner, containing written endorsement of an oath'to attempt the viceroy’s life. . ;
