[rEIl CHESS ASSOCIATION. COPYRIGHT.] THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. • The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Animals Protection Bill was received from the House and read a first tjme. Sir F. Bell moved the second reading of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, which subsequently passed a]l stages. The Master and Apprentices Bill was committed when a new clause was added to increase the penalty for the employer who ill-treats an apprentice or fails to instruct him from £lO to £SO. The'Bill was then read a third time and passed. Bay of Islands Harbour Bill was read a. third time and passed. Gisborne Harbour Board Amendment was reqd a second time without discussion. The Council rose at 4.5 p.m.
THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. A Bill to-amend tile Death Duties Act was .introduced by Governor-Gen-eral’s message. Mr Massey explained that ho hoped to derive additional revenue from this source to the extent of £200,000 to £250,000; part of which would be applied to the butter subsidy. At the evening sitting the House went into committee on the Counties Bill, which was passed hrough all stages without important amendments. The House rose at 11.30 p.m.
