On being charged with damaging the picture, s‘The Light of the World,” he Baid that he did it to draw attention to his grievance over his pension since lie was invalided out of the army: QUAKERS AND IRELAND. LONDON, Oct. 12. In Ireland the Society of Friends tis moving to secure a respite of the hostility in Ireland. The society is now approaching the various other churches with a view to securing a month’s truce. It is asking the English Government and tlie Irish Republicans to pledge themselves to prevent any recourse to physical force methods.
