DISTRICT RACING COMMITTEE

>— The Commiottee met at Greymouth last night, Mr T. E. Coates being in the chair. The routine business disposed of included the granting of a trainer’s license to O. B. Cameron, Omoto. The Racing Conference granted permission to the Grey and Wsetland Clubs to omit apprentice riders’ races at their forthcoming meetings. The Westland Club’s summer programme of £I,BOO was approved. The Racing Conference granted permission to the Reefton Club io omit hurdle or 'jumpers’ fiat events and apprentice riders’ races at the January meeting. A later letter from the President asked the District Club to see where permission was given to omit events, it wAs not considered advisable to substitute trotting events.

The Reefton programme, £I7OO, for twelve gallop events and four trotting races was submitted. Mr Evans moved the programme be approved and the attention o( thfe Reef ten Club be called to the non-pay-ment of the quota due to the district secretary’s salary. Mr ' Gilbert seconded. Mr Beban moved as an amendment that the Reefton Club be asked to delete the trotting events, and substitute gallops. Mr Kettle seconded. Following a discussion on the matte;* Mr Coates suggested that the pro* gramme be referred back to the Reefton Club with a copy of the President’s letter, and the Club be asked to substitute a jumpers’ flat for one of the trotting races each day. This was accepted as the amendment, and on a division the voting was equal. The Chairman gave his casting Vote with the amendment, which was declared carried, and the programme was re* ferred back accordingly. It was resolved to ask 'the Reefton Club to consider the suggestion AS; early as possible, and upon a reply, a special meetihg of the district commit* tee he called to deal with the pro* tframme. The President was asked to confer with the Reefton Club regarding the payment of the levy for the district secretary’s salary. It was resolved to issue the booklet programmes as early as possible.
