CHARGES OF PROFITEERING

DUNEDIN CASES ADJOURNED. DUNEDIN, Oct. 4. AVI)on the charge against a local firm of selling a table at a price unreasonably high was called on in the Police Court this morning, the Crown Prosecutor (Air Adams) asked for an adjournment till the 22nd inst., his reason being that the case might be affected by the decision of the Court of Appeal in n pending case. Air S. Solomon, K.C 1 ., who appeared for defendants, said he had no right to object to an adjournment, as its object was to give Magistrates a rule of construction that would assist them in arriving at a uniform result. His clients would plead not guilty, and it seemed to him that if such a charge were left hanging over a trader’s head for three weeks, he would suffer serious commercial injury, which the Crown would not wish to inflict unless it were absolutely necessary. The case was eventually adjourned until the 22nd inst. The summons in the case of a draper on a charge of selling a skein of wool at an unreasonably High price had also been served, but Mr Adams said he would make arrangements for it to he heard on the same day as the other case.
