><**** Butter Prices. In an economic controversy such as that between the butter producers and the public the Government had no right to take sides. That in this particular instance it threw the weight of its influence into the scale on behalf of those who desired to make food dearer in an aggravation of the offence. Whatever the Select Committee may eventually say about it, the butter producers and dealers of New Zealand aio to-day charging a very stiff price for butter at the instigation of the Department of Agriculture.—Lyttelton Times.
