JOTTINGS FROM THE LOBBY
(Our Parliamentary Correspondent.)
THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL. WELLINGTON, Sept, 27. The House of Representatives met this evening and adjourned at once in order that Ministers and members might take part in the civic reception to Lord Jelicoel. The welcoming of the new Governor-General has been the business of the day in Wellington. The proceedings have been marked by considerable enthusiasm, but have been devoid of incident. The text of Lord Jellicoe’s speeches has been his desire to serve New Zealand well. Lad'v Jellicoe and her five children have accompanied the GovernorGeneral, and have lent brightness to the official proceedings. BUYING COAL. No definite official information is available yet regarding the reported purchase of one hundred thousand tons of Australian coal by the New Zealand Government, but there is reason to believe that the purchase is likely to be completed. The Government is losing no opportunity of buying coal abroad in view of the very unsatisfactory situation at the New Zealand mines.
