IRISH INCIDENTS. - : LONDON, September 23,
Following on the shooting of four constables at Rineen, a party of uniformed men at night set fire to eighteen houses at Ennistynon. Three civilians were shot dead.
The Republican police tried a travelling tinker on a charge of stabbing nis wife and ordered nine lashes of the cat of nine tails to be administered. A BISHOP’S WELCOME. LONDON, September 23. Spence, Archbishop of Adelaide, had a remarkable welcome at Newfy railway platform which was decorated with Sinn Fein flags. When an address of welcome was presented, tho Archbishop asked permission to Salute Ireland’s flajg. . ° \
AN INQUEST. ' LONDON, September 24
At Dublin, the Coroner opened an inquest on the body of Lynch, who was killed by police or military in his room intlie Royal Exchange Hotel at Dublin. The military authorities, howevr, barred the proceedings. They stated t|heiy Were bolding l an inquiry, The Dublin Corporation’s solicitors ordered the inquest, unless lie was forcibly prevented.
A BISHOP’S VISIT. LONDON, Sept. 23
Archbishop Spence, of Adelaide, is visiting Ireland. He jeined in a ceremony of saluting the flag. He was greeted with great cheering on arrival, Dr Spence, in the course of an address remarked that unlike Archbishop Mannix, he had been prevented from coming to Ireland; hut at the same time he had to confess that he did not know where he migt he to-morrow—and he did not care. The soldiers of the British Government, he said; were committing atrocities in Ireland as great as—and even greater than the Armenian atrocities.
EMBARGO ON ULSTER RANKS LONDON, Sept. 23.
Notices have been officially posted at the Dublin Castle market, warning all persons against the giving or accepting of cheques on the Ulster Banks, or their notes, as otherwise the Dublin corporation will take action agaiußt the offenders.
