The death of another old and esteemed pioneer of the district took place this morning at five o’clock, Mr Henry C. D. Gay lor, the well-known hotelkeeper of Woodstock passing away. Dej ceased was a native iof London and 88 ' years of age, .and had been resident in New Zealand for 58 years. For a long period of years he has carried on business as a storekeeper and hotel-keeper at Woodstock, and has proved an excellent citizen. His wife died several | years ago. He leaves a family of four | daughters (Mrs F. Winter, and Mrs M. j Keenan of Rimu, and Misses Gladys I and Mildred Gaylor). A grand ball- will bo held in the Pub-1 lie Hall, liimu, on Wednesday, October 6th, in aid of the Westland Hospital Memorial Wing. The friends of Mr J. Noble of Reefton will regret to learn of the death of his mother, which took place at Nelson on Monday evening. The deceased lady had been in ill health for a considerable time.
