JOINT CONTROL OF INDUSTRY. ROME, Sept 21. The Italian Premier Signor Giolitti, has just presided at a conference between the masters and,men in the motal industry. He urged conciliatory discussion of the problems affecting the
industry. The masters and men then conferred separately. The masters later informed Signor Gfolitti that they were -unable to accept a system of joint control. Yet they would be willing to submit to it if it were imposed. Signor Giolitti said that he was prepared to take the responsibility for starting joint control. Signor Giolitti then issued a- decree appointing a Joint Committee of Masters and Men to draft a bill to reorganise the metal industry on the basis of the men’s participation in the technical, financial, and administrative control of the industry. The decree points out that the workmen declare such participation will result in an increased output and the . improved relations between the masters and the men.
