TIMBER INDUSTRY

Mr Seddon (Westland), asked the Minister in charge of the Forestry Department whether, with a view to protection of the lives of those who workin sawmills, he will have an inspector appointed of bridges, tramways and skids used in connection with the timber industry. Hon W .Guthrie replied that it is recognised provision should be made for inspection by Government officers. At present the State Forests Act does not confer the authority required. An amendment of the Tramway’s Act is
under consideration of Government, making ppovisipp for inspection and control of such tramways and bridges.
