ROSS BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of tho Ross Borough Council' book place in the Coronation Hall on Tuesday evening. Present : Councillors F. Moore, A. Mi. Upjohn, J. Thomson, N. S. Phillips and J. Minelian. Cr Moore was voted to the chair.
Apologies for absence through illness were received from the Mayor (S. P. Evans Esq.) and the Deputy Mayor, Cr Linstrom.
j The minutes of the previous meeting | wore read and confirmed. 1 The outward correspondence was read | and approved. INWARD correspondence. From National Electrical Coy. Christchurch, re supply of electric lamps.— Received. From John Burns and Co. quoting for cast iron pipes.—Received. From Ross branch, Returned Soldiers’ Association, asking why Mr De Bakker’s offer of 10s per year was not accepted for the use of the two Borough dams on Bullock Point, and complaining at the Council’s treatment of returned soldiers.—Received. Resolved to inform tho Association the Council were not prepared to lease the dams in question for the amount of 10s per annum, but the PAY. Committee were authorised to make terms with any applicants.
From F. P. Perham, Secretary of the Automobile Association, enquiring if lower road from Ross to Donoghues could be re-opened.—Received. The Town Clerk was requested to supply the Association with full particulars concerning this road. From Westland Chamber of Commerce soliciting grant in connection with Otira-Hokitika motor mail service. —Received. Resolved to vote £3. The Chairman Public Works Committee reported on Donoghue Road repairs, stating another week’s work would expend the grant of £IOO, and that repairs to Beach Road would then he taken in hand.—Received and airproved. As the maintenance man’s term of twelve expire at the end of September, it was resolved to call applications for the position returnable at next meeting.
It was resolved to call tenders returnable at next meeting for the 5-yrs lease of rubbish reserve, Reserve No 310, and that portion of the Town Belt adjoining the pound. It was resolved to take action against owners of unregistered dogs.
