FOOD PRICES. LONDON Sept. 16. Tho British Ministry of Food has arranged to buy some of the Danish butter surplus. It will pay 300 s per cwt. G.I.G. It has been arranged, however,., that Belgium and Germany shall have a fair share of the Danish output at the same price. The British Food Controller is now increasing the wholesale prices of flour. It goes up to 22s 6d per 280 pounds. The rise starts from the 20th September,
LIBERALS OPPOSE LABOUR. LONDON, September 17. The Executive of the Nationl Liberal Federation at a meeting carried motion stating it considered the introduction of any political differences into industrial disputes to be contrary *o national interests, and asserting ’.no rights of trade union combination and collective bargaining had been established as a special protection for the workers, and should be exercised only to settle industrial relations between employer and employedThe Federation says it strongly deprecates the formation of the Labour Council of Action, claiming all political questions should be determined by Par-
liament alone, adding that such procedure as >the Council of Action would bo a grave menace to the self-Government of the people.

AMUNDSEN’S JOURNEY. ROME, September 16
The Norwegian vice-Consul lias received reports that Captain Amundsen started for Wrnngel Island on 28th. July, over the icc, in jan attempt to drift to the North Pole. Two members of the expedition started homeward from Krasnojaak. The Russian Government reported they had perished. Amundsen believed they were victims of a crime.

The Imperial' Government has an proved W. E. Dickenson ex-managing director of Nauru Phosphates Companv to be President member of the Nauru Commission, on which Ellis is the New Zealand representative. The latter has arrived in Lbndon. The Commission is arranging preliminaries for taking over control of operations.
A BELATED COURTMARTIAL. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) BUDAPEST, Sept. 15. After two years sfnee the assassination of ex-Premier Tisza, a court-mar-tial found, four men guilty. Two were sentenced to death, one to fifteen years hard labour, and one to three months’ imprisonment.

JAP SILK INDUSTRY. (Received this dav at 9.30 a.m.) TOKIO, Sept. 16. Government in order to relieve the silk industry will lend the silk syndic cate fifty million yen, with an additional fifteen million through the Bank of Japan, with the object of maintaining the price of raw silk and controlling exports.
