PRINCE OF WALES’ TOUR.

PRINCE AT APIA

H.M.S. Renown (via Suva) radio,

August -25,—After a fair weather passage from Suva', the Renown arrived off Apia, Samoa, and anchored this morning two miles from the shore. It was intended that the Prince should land in a native boat,Jbut owing to a rough sea prevailing, tins was .found impracticable. The Prince accordingly landed in the launch of .the Administrator, Col." R. W. Tate, C.8.E., a New Zealander, who went out for an official call. Tire Prince proceeded shoreward, escorted by many native boats, with forty flower adorned rowers apiece. At the jetty the Prince was received by leading officials, British and New Zealand residents, and also a large picturesque concourse of natives. Addresses were presented. A procession was then formed ef motor cars for Mulinau Point, where the'Prince was entertained at a native banquet, followed by a function called a Royal Kava, in which the Prince was seated in a leafy pavilion, surrounded by lofty palms, where he received the homage of the assembled chiefs, and a cup of kava, which was brewed with impressive ceremonies. Exhibitions of native industries, including weaving tappa cloth from hark, matting, baskets,''also jewellery, were inspected. The Prince motored to Vailima, celebrated as formerly the Samoan home of R. L. Stevenson. Vailima, during the German occupation was the official residence of the German Governor, and is now the residence of the Administrator appointed by the New Zealand Government, which was given the mandate. The Prince re-embarked on the Renown'in the evening. The Renown immediately sailed for Honolulu.
