CAPTURE OF PRISONERS. WARSAW, Aug? 19. The Poles took prisoner 10,000. Manymore arc coming in. It is reported the Reds have evacuated Brest Litovsk. LABOUR’S CALL FOR PEACE. LONDON, Aug. 19. Mr dynes, Labour M.P., in an article in "The Standard” denies that Labour lias been dragged at the heels of extremists over the Russian question. He says: “It never gave anything more spontaneous support than the Council of Action, which did violence to no principle we fought for. We do not approve of the acts of the Bolsheviks, nor of the principles and conditions of the Soviet Government; nor do we wish, in any degree, to see our own country imitating their crude and fantastic plans in establishing a communist’s state. Labour is entitled to call a peace policy, and to secure it by refusing to be a party to the war policy of any other section, and to use any particular form of influence exertible upon the Government. HELP FOR POLES. * LONDON, Aug. 18. The “Guardian’s” Warsaw correspondent asserts that it is French influence that dominates the entire strategy’, as well as the political views, in Poland. The French general staff, it is stated, has planned the whole defence scheme of tlie Poles. General Wrangel’s agent, M. Savikoff, is in Poland. He has his headquarters at Posen, where he is assisting in the anti-Bolshevik campaign. The remainder of General Deniken’s army, which is many thousands strong, besides a force of Cassocks have arrived in Poland. They are offering the Poles their services. There are numerous Russians helping the Poles. Some formerly were supporters of the Czarist Government. Some, after acting as propagandists, are spending money freely largely supplied by France.

STRIKERS AND FRENCH CLASH. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) BERLIN, August 19. t A strike of workers in Upper Silesia against the Russo-Polish war, led to a serious conflict with French troops at Kattowitz. French cavalry were* attacked and a trooper killed. The French replied with machine guns and grenades killing nine and wounding twenty-six. The Trade Union Delegation demanded tlie disarmament of troops in the occupied area promising then) a safe conduct. The French commandant refused the terms. Negotiations are progressing. The German press is excited over the incident, and report that two thousand Poles of military age have been smuggled over the border. They declare this is grave and dangerous infringement of German neutrality’.
THE ROMANOFFS. LONDON, August 19. The “Times” has begun a series if articles giving what is claims to be an authentic account of the death of the Russian Czar and other Royalists. It drawn from anti-Bolshevik sources, and alleges tortures and that the Reds aimed at the wholesale extermination of the 'Romanoffs. It also alleges German complicity, and says t.hi* Czar refused to agree to the Brest-Litovsk Treaty but fell a victim to his loyalty to the Allies. It adds that all the Romanoffs were :n----eonvenient to Germany and to thp Internationalists’ plans.
