RAILWAY TARIFF
INCREASES COMING.

; WELLINGTON, August 19. Tho railway tariff on the now schedule will be announced to morrow by a special issue of the Gazette. It has been announced already that in the revision of the tariff, the main pnrposo of which is to collect more revenue from the users of the railways there will also be a correction of certain anomalies existing in the present tariff. There are goods at present carried by the railways at rates which are not payable. Tho low rates were adopted at the time they were established for reasons which no longer hold. These rates will be. raised to conform with the general scedulo rates. On the other hand, it is admitted that som e goods already pay quite high rates and it is understood, that, the increases on those may not be so heavy as on tho general body of freight earned. The percentage rate of increase will, it is understood, be in the neighbourhood of 12j per c e »G certainly between 10 and 15 per cent.
