This was carried . unanimously. } [ MANNIX INTERVIEWED. , LONDON, August 12. The Australian press association interviewed Dr Mannix who declared: “Some people want me to say things about Mr Hughes, but the latter will best be answered from the Melbourne ■ demonstration.” Dr Mannix referring to tho surveillance of detectives, said he did not see any reason why ho should object to their making themselves foolish. Asked whether he had heard a rumour that the ban had been | removed, he replied he had heard of ! some-one asking a question in the Com- j mons whether Dr Mannix was going to j Ireland merely to see relatives. The times had not come to remove the ban, hut that question was not authorised by ’ him. Ho never stated he was going to ! Ireland merely to see his relatives. If • ho went to Ireland lie meant to go as an ordinary citizen, with an ordinary citizen’s opportunities and rights. That j meant he would be bound l)y the law like anyone else. Asked how long he j intended to remain in London Dr Man- ( nix replied emphatically: “Until I go to Ireland. I mean to see this business through.” Asked for an opinion on the restoration of Order Bill, Dr Mannix said: ‘‘lt does not help matters, it merely aggravates the position. Among Dr Mannix’s callers since his arrival have been the Archbishop ot Hobart and Perth, Bishops of Rock- 1 liampton and Sandhurst. ,
