NEW SECRET SOCIETY
lAUBTBALIAN & N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION] • DUBLIN, August 8. A Dublin message reports a new secret society has started to terrorize the south of Ireland. It is anti-Sinn Fein and is styled “Brotherhood'*- of Irish Avengers.’’ It promises a programme of outrages, burning and violence.
IN THE COMMONS. LONDON, August 9. In the Commons, in reply to Major Barnes, Hon Bonar Law said the prohibition of Dr Alannix landing in Ireland was ordered by competent military authorities here, acting under the Defence of the Reaim Act regulations. MANNIX’S PROHIBITION. LONDON, August 9. A naval officer boarded the Baltic and conveyed Sir T. McCready's prohibition against Dr Alannix landing in Ireland, and Field-Marshal Sir Henry Wilson’s prohibition against his visiting Liverpool, Mancheser or Glasgow. Otherwise, Dr Alannix- is free to go anywhere in Britain. Dr Mannix twice refused the officer’s persuasion and protested against being ordered to quit the ship. Tlie officer then placed his hand on Mannix’s shoulder, and Mannix regarding this as a legal arrest, boarded the destroyed.
