GOAL POSITION SERIOUS. MELBOURNE, August 8. The coal position is regarded as graver than at any period since 1914. Householders’ supplies are unobtainable and tile quantity coming from New South Wales is far below what is required to keep the essential industries going at their full power and unless tliero is a marked improvement during the next few weeks many factories will be com pel led to close. It is anticipated that the authorities will ake action, giving precedence to tho coastal vessels now delayed at Newcastle, on account of the preference shown to consignmens for abroad. -
