DEFENCE OF THE REALM ACT.
LONDON, Aug 3. A legal authority writing in the “Westminister Gazette,” predicts that in the event of the Government invoking the,Defence of the Realm regulations to prohibit Dr Mannix from landing iu Irelund, all friends of British liberty will unite iu bringing the issue to the court. Judges in a number of cases have nlrendy heid that the Defence of the Realm .regulations are now invalid inasmuch as the war emergency has passed.
MANNIX REPUDIATED. (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 3. Tlie New York Times publishes a- letter signed by a number of Australians, condemning Dr Mannix, and pointing out all Australia is ibehind Mr Hughes in repudiating Mannix. i (
