FIRE IN REVELL STREET.
The firebell rang out a vigorous alarm of fire last night about 1.30 o’clock. (Owing to the heavy northerly blowing the sound of the bell djd not penetrate as weli as usual to the residential portion of the town, and many people difi f|ot hear it. fhe scene of the outbreak was in the heart of Revell Street, immediately bp* posjte Keller’s fiotel in a simp owned by Mr W. J, ITitchqrd, and' formerly known as J. I’arkhilFs grocery store. This was occupied by Mr William McLbn-n, of the Colomblp tea and cocoa agency.
The flames had a. good hold when the aUivm was given, but the Brigade members were soon on the spot with their gear and though the flames and smoke made the position look dangerous the pul break was soon got under, but not before the preniisej were gutted by firp and the contents damaged by wafer apd lire.
'fhe adjoining premises of Mr A. Keller, tailor were in danger for a while but luckily tin? Brigade were enabled to save, the building and contents, some of which were damaged by water to a small extent.
The building owned by Mr W. J. Pritchard is insured in the National Office for -£lsll. The stocks of Mr ■McLean are insured in the Insurance of Australia, for £IOOO, and lie estimates tlie value of liis stocks at £I6OO.
