PROGRESS LEAGUE
A meeting of the Joint Committee with regard to the formation of a locai League was held at the County Chambers last evening.
There were present Messrs "Wild (chair), Perry, Jeffries, Stewart, Pilkington, Bruce, Ritchie and Evans. The Acting-Holi. Sec. reported having iutei viewed Mr Chime, organiser of the Canterbury League, and submitted a report, which detailed the conditions under which Westlapd might affiliate with Canterbury. The suggestion was t° set up a local committee here as part of the 'Canterbury League. Half the subscriptions from individuals and business firm would he retained by the Committee and half payable to the parent League. Contributions fram local- bodies would be payable direct to the League. Direct representation on the Canterbury Council would be accorded. It was resolved to recommend that a Westland Committee of the Canterbury League be formed, and that the officers lie: a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer, and an executive committee of seven, to meet monthly. A general committee meeting of all members to meet quarterly. It was further resolved to call a public meeting of citizens, town and country,' at the Town Hall on Friday night at 8 o’clock, to constitute the Westland Committee in accordance with the foregoing. The suggestion was put forward that a list of district major requirements shoul r ] be drawn up as an objective for tlie Progress League to work for, and to bring the matters under the notice of the Canterbury delegation, when visiting West land next month.
