'J lie Full Court to-day hoard a ease stated by the Native Land Court re the .Mauiiora Block (known as the Greymoiith Native Reserve), for tile opinion of I he Siij)reme (hurt. There was an application to partition the block, and the question before the (hurt is the jurisdiction of the Native Land Court to allow this. Sir J. Findlay, K.C., and Mr Beere apcpa v in support of the application. Mr P. SUerrett. Tv.C.. and -Mr Fail appear to oppose it. Judgment has been reserved. BOARD OF TRADE ACT. WELLINGTON, .July 23. A representative meeting of wholesale and retail traders, convened by the local Employers’ Association, was held today in the Chamber of Commerce to discuss the provisions of the Board of Trade Act and to consider proposed amendments of the Act submitted by the Christchurch traders. The resolutions and amendments adopted by the meeting in Christchurch were heartily approved, and delegates were appointed to attend a Dominion Conference of Trades Representatives to he held in Wellington in the near future.
WOMEN’S HEALTH SOCIETY. WELLINGTON, July 23 The Conference of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, finished to-day. It was decided that the Railway Department be asked to place in every railway waiting room a notice drawing attention to the address of the nearest Plunket Nurse. The proposal to affiliate with the National Council of Women was defeated. Conference agreed to (1) that moving pictures as at present shown are injurious to children and young persons, (2) that in regard to moving picture shows, this Conference represents to the Government its very strong feeling as to the utter inadequacy of the present provision in the way of regulation of censorship to safeguard the children of the Dominiun; (3) that the attendance of children at picture shows and pictures allowed to be shown to children should be regulated through the Education Department; (4) that picture programmes should be classified into (a) adult programmes; (b) children’s programmes. The election of the Central Council resulted as follows:—President. Mrs J. A. Johnstone; Vice-Presidents, Mrs W. F. Massey and Mrs McGeorge; Committee, Mesdames L. Bloomfield, Pvne, Newman. T. K. Sidey, Vigor Brown, J. C. McGeorge, W. A. Moore, C. V. Rattray, and Snow; Treasurer, Mrs Theomin : Secretary, Miss Hoddinott.
