Tliero is a vast literature of pessimism, and it has its value as criticism of life and as a stimulus to~ the hopeful. The timidity, doubt, and failure of one period become the confidence, achievement, and success of the next. The world accommodates itself with astonishingly slight shocks to the changes of growth and progress; but it is the individual soul that needs t-, have a care for itself.
