The 'Wellington branch of the Educa_ tional Institute to-night adopted a motion, proposed on behalf of the Management Committee /‘viewing with deepest regret the action of the Auckland teachers in establishing an association apart from the Institute ,for the express pur. pose of voicing the needs and grievances of Auckland teachers separately from those of the teachers of the Dominion as a whole. Further, that the result of such a parochial view of educational affairs can end only in the disruption of the Institute, which stands for equal rights for all and special privileges for none.” The meeting also approved the action of the Department in directing that there should he a re-grading of certain Auckland teachers, so that they should not have an unfair advantage over the other teachers of the Dominion. THE BOY SCOUTS. WANGANUI, July 19. A full meeting of the Wanganui Distinct Committee of Hie Dominion Boy Scouts passed the following resolution • “That this committee express entire satisfaction with the Dominion headquarters control of the Boy Scout organisation, and view with alarm any schismatic interference with the present system of control, as we are profoundly convinced that such a step would be disastrous to tlie whole movement.” APPEAL DISMISSED. WELLINGTON, July 19. The Racing Conference judges dismissed an appeal by the Rangitikei Racing Club against the decision of the Wanganui District Committee that the Rangitikei stewards made an error of judgment in debarring the horses Yankee Jack and Hnutawa f,yom starting in the Maiden Hack Race at the Rangitikei Club’s meeting on March 20th, 1920. The race was a hack race within the meaning of Rule 1, of Part 11, and the following words in Rule 2 therefore apply: “ The amount won by any horse in a flat race, hurdle race, or steeplechase, respectively, shall be estimated separately, and shall not debar such horse from entry, except in the special class of race in which lie has won the amounts.” The judges hold that, the race being a flat race, it follows that any stakes won in a hurdle race cannot be taken into account.
