Q UEEXSLAND’S PI? EM IER. LONDON, July 1.7. Mr Theodore, Queensland Premier, speaking at a farewell dinner here, said he hoped that England never had thought Queensland would repudiate her obligations. He pointed out, on the other hand, however, that Queensland, like any other self-governing Dominion, would never abdicate her functions of self-government. Mr Theodore passionately repudiated the action of the capitalists who have been endeavouring to exercise control over the Queensland Government. Speaking in terms of bitter resentment, Mr Theodore denounced the attempt made by a tew persons to prevent other people from investing in Queensland. These persons tried to intimidate the people, and also his Government from adopting a policy that was not approved of by the city interests. It was unfortunate foi Queensland in particular, and for Australia in general, that their local political fights should be carried into the city of London. The self-governing Dominions, he pointed out, should be left to settle such questions for themselves.
